Boston, MA -
Bullies welcome South Shore Kings Charlie
Coyle, who was chosen by the San
Jose Sharks with the 28th pick of
the 2010 NHL Entry Draft. He is the first EJHL player to be drafted in the
first round since the Sharks selected Capital District Selects alum Nick
Petrecki with the 28th pick in 2007.
After a standout career at Thayer Academy, Coyle accelerated his
studies and joined the Kings, finishing fifth in the EJHL in scoring and
garnering Rookie of the Year honors.
Along with his stellar season with the Kings, Coyle joined the US National Development Program for two
international tournaments.
Coyle received considerable
attention from NHL scouts from the moment he stepped on the ice with the Kings.
He appeared on the Central Scouting Bureau's preliminary rankings as an
"A" player, signifying that he would likely be selected in the first
three rounds. He was ranked 19th on the January Midterm rankings and finished
the season 24th on the April Final rankings. He also became the second EJHL
player to win the prestigious John Carlton Award, presented to the most
outstanding high school or junior player in Eastern Massachusetts.
The Weymouth, MA, native was
invited to the NHL Draft Combine
last month and performed exceptionally. He will also attend the USA Hockey
World Junior Evaluation Camp. He will attend Boston University in the fall.
